The CNC Machinist Immersion Program is designed to simulate a real shop environment for students ages 18 and older who will learn all aspects of a machine shop. The program is available in both day and evening courses and can be completed in as little as 6 months to 1 year. The program includes instruction on layout and benchwork, manual milling, and CNC skills for mills and lathes. Students will get hands-on experience in our state of the art machine shop lab and CNC simulator lab. Following the requirements set by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills Certification Program, students are taught the skills needed to pass the NIMS Machining Level 1 certification. Small class sizes ensure the best possible learning environment for metalworking students. According to Workforce Solutions, the number of jobs for CNC machinists in the Gulf Coast area will grow by 22 percent by 2018. The median salary for workers in that field is approximately $17 an hour.

Commercial Truck Driving

Trucking companies across the country are trying desperately to fill the increasing demand for trained truck drivers and new graduates are finding themselves more valued than ever in this competitive job market. In the ACC Commercial Driving Licensing (CDL) Program, students are prepared for entry-level employment in the trucking industry.  The 160-hour CDL program provides classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel driving experience. Classes are offered during the day and evening. Students can complete the CDL “Class A” training in 4 weeks. The vehicles used in the ACC CDL training program are comparable to those used in the trucking industry. ACC also offers a CDL refresher course. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, opportunities for commercial truck drivers are expected to grow 21 percent over the next few years, which makes this a great time to embark on a rewarding, secure career in the trucking industry.

Computer Networking

Nearly every organization in every sector of the job market utilizes computer networking to support their operations. Whether it’s network administration, network maintenance or network engineering, there is demand for workers to support Information Technology. ACC offers a two-year Associate Degree in Applied Science for computer networking to help meet employers’ needs for network support. The ACC program prepares students for careers in many areas of LAN/WAN administration and design. The program is designed to include the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) and/or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) sequence. Program graduates will be better prepared for both of these industry leading certification examinations as well as the more basic CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications. Jobs in this market are expected to grow 12 percent in the next ten years. The median salary for network administrators is $72,560 annually or $34.88 an hour.
